tandemnursing

I'm still nursing my 22 month old and expecting a new bebe in about three weeks. For those of you who tandem nurse a toddler and newborn (or have) how do you ensure that your newborn is getting their needs met? Do you designate a breast for each child? Let the newborn nurse first always? I expect to do a lot of nursing them at the same time. My son is very clingy and possessive of his na-nas so I'd like to let him nurse while his sister nurses. I'm just a little unsure of what I'm doing!

I also had a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance with him the first month or so. Is it likely that I will encounter the same thing when my milk comes in?

When I was just making cholostrum I would let the newborn nurse first. When my milk came in it tended to be the newborn nursing first as he wanted to nurse more often. I tried not to give him the full breast all the time cos I have a tendancy for oversupply and he was ending up with the classic green poo and poorly tummy.

I didn't really have a system of one breast per child although it tended towards that at times. I tended to nurse them individually as I could keep my toddler's latch on properly. If she left to her own devices she'd kind of hang off the nipple which certainly wasn't fun!
